5 Signs You Are Over-Training

  • “Over-Training” is one of those things you hear about but never want to believe that you actually do it. You reserve its use for ‘those people’ who quite obviously punish themselves in the gym hour upon hour. But could you also be guilty of this easy common problem?

    1. Do you have cold hands, feet and/or tip of your nose? This is a common symptom that the thyroid gland is not functioning at its optimal and stress and exercise will make this much worse.

    2. Do you have difficulty sleeping at night after working out? Exercising late at night – even if it’s “the only time” you have to train – can stimulate your nervous system so much that you find it difficult to relax and wind down.

    3. Do you often feel you have more energy after having a workout? Logic tells us that exercising should leave us feeling relatively more tired than when we began. If you feel more energy after than when you began, you might be starting out with low levels of stress hormones and exercise is probably too challenging for your body.

    4. Do you often get a post-lunch dip in energy and mental clarity? While this can be commonly caused by the actual foods you are eating at your lunch, it is also a sign that your adrenaline levels are too high prior to the meal. Yes, this too can be caused by over-training.

    5. Do you have chronic injuries that won’t heal, or persistent body-fat that will not shift? It is likely that your body is not getting enough anabolic recovery relative to the exercise strains being placed upon it. We need to rest to heal stronger.

To solve this dilemma, it’s not quite as simple as exercising less. We must also consider the type of exercise we are doing, and other lifestyle factors involved.

If you are interested in finding out more and having a free session to know how you can increase your physical energy, and improve your mental focus and clarity of thought, then please call 07740 353004.

Good luck, and I look forward to speaking to you soon.
