9 Ways to Let Nature Help You Be Healthy

  • For centuries we have survived and thrived on this planet as a population without the high levels of illness and disease that we currently have.

Cancer rates have gone from approximately 1 in 50 in the early 1900′s to almost 1 in 2 present day. It is safe to say that despite our modern technologies that we have only become more and more unhealthy.

Below you will find 9 Ways to Let Nature Help You Be Healthy:

    1. Eat a whole-food diet

I think it’s obvious to most people on this planet that the food that you eat plays an important role in your health. However there are so many different types of diet out there that its sometimes difficult to know which one to follow. What is universally acknowledged by most of the different diet plans is that you should eat real, whole, natural foods. Ideally your foods should be organic so that they don’t contain all of the industrial chemicals that commercial foods are sprayed with.

    2. Stay hydrated and use water as your primary source of fluid

Before soft-drinks, pasteurised and processed juices, pasteurised and homogenised dairy, and chemical concoctions passing themselves off as beverages, we survived solely on water. Water should be your main source of fluid, drinking your body-weight in kilograms multiplied by 0.033 in litres every day. If you should then indulge in another drink (tea, coffee, fruit juice, alcohol) then add the same amount that you just drank in water on top to rehydrate.

    3. Get some fresh air

I guess this one is actually more important than your food and water. Consider that you only eat 3-5 times a day, but you breathe 20-30,000 times a day! It’s important that the quality of the air you breath is high. Try to get yourself out in the air for at least an hour a day. Our furniture and indoor environments are so toxic and filled with chemicals that you need to get away from this as often as possible to minimise any chemical stress to your body.

    4. Get some Sunlight

One of the biggest vitamin deficiencies that we see nowadays is vitamin D. This can be obtained directly from sunlight. At the same time that you go out to get your fresh air, try to get some Sun as well. A lack of sunlight is associated with Seasonal Affective Disorder where people become more and more depressed in the winter months as they spend more time indoors. However, it has been shown even in the winter and even if it is cloudy outside, you can still get a good dose of vitamin D. Just wear gloves and a hat come winter-time!

    5. Rise with the Sun

Before we had alarm clocks that would wake us up abruptly, and even before we had dawn simulating alarm clocks that wake us up slightly less obnoxiously we simply woke up with the Sun or when we had enough rest. Aim to have eight hours sleep a night, winding down as the Sun begins to set and then sleeping through until Sunrise.

    6. Get grounded with the Earth

Modern science has determined that standing barefoot on the earth can connect us with an unlimited supply of free electrons on the surface of the earth. Several studies have shown it to have nearly instantaneous effects on the brain, muscles, blood pressure, and respiratory rhythms. Clinical studies using medical thermal imaging demonstrate dramatic and rapid improvement of inflammation, pain and range of motion. Try getting your bare feet onto real grass for 20 minutes a day.

    7. Move

If you watch nature, whether it is animals, trees or the Earth itself, it all moves, all the time. I suggest to my clients that they don’t think of “movement” as exercise but think of their exercise programme as movement. Try to get some movement in for 30-40 minutes each and every day.

    8. Use essential oils

Essential oils are known as nature’s living energy and are the natural, aromatic liquids found in shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds. The distinctive components in essential oils defend plants against insects, environmental conditions, and disease. They can also provide these benefits for you and your health. 9. Be present with nature

It’s amazing what you can learn just by being still and watching nature. “The calm after the storm” is not just a saying, but also an observation of nature and an expression of the two types of energies that we harness in our bodies. The intense movements of exercise, followed by the calm of rest, relaxation and meditation. Try to sit with nature around you every single day and learn all you can.

Point 9 highlights all of the other 8 points and really drives home the conclusion that nature needs to be observed, learnt from, and followed if we desire to be healthy. Technology is fantastic and has brought us some amazing advantages in the year 2009, but sometimes if we want to be healthy we need to go back to simpler times.

What other ways do you follow nature to be healthier?
