Live To Be 100!
-
I’m currently reading an old Deepak Chopra book, Ageless Body, Timeless Mind 10th Anniversary Edition: A Practical Alternative To Growing Old – which, by the way is fantastic – and in the 4th section he quotes an interesting statistic. He says that of the general population, 80% of people said that they were satisfied with their current lives. However, the majority of people are not interested in living to be 100 years old!
This brings up a few questions:
- Why do people not want to live to 100, if they are satisfied?
- Are people just mildly satisfied, and why are they not extremely satisfied?
- What would it take for people to want to live to 100?
You would expect people who are satisfied with their lives to want to continue living them to a ripe old age – an age that is not impossible to achieve despite national averages.
I believe that the reason many people do not want to live to this age, is as Deepak discusses in the book, is because most people have a negative image of “old age” and do not want to be seen in this way. What is needed is a paradigm shift, from thinking of old age as negative and “the end of life”, but the beginning of developing wisdom and the chance to express your years you have lived with a great example to the “younger” members of society.
I am 23, and I hope to live to 100, and I believe my lifestyle choices fit with this decision to get to this age:
- Eating quality, organic foods,
- Exercising hard and resting well,
- Sleeping adequately,
- Thinking positively,
- Living a life that I love!
As long as these things continue, there’s no reason why I won’t make it and love it when I get there.
Please leave a comment and maybe you can answer one of my questions above:
- What would it take for you to want to live to 100?

I love your blog on living to be a hundred, your insights are so incisive. The majority of people, as we know, are overweight and certainly not in optimal health, so their claim to satisfaction with life is more than a little stretch of the truth (aka denial). To want to be extremely satisfied requires that you know what it feels like to be extremely satisfied, doesn’t it. You have to be able to experience it… that’s why I developed Body’Fit pH Fitnes™s (short form… pHx™). You might enjoy it, check it out at BodyFitLife.com
Hey SA… Thanks for your comment! I’ll take a look at your site. Keep checking back for more posts in the future.
