Low Calorie Diets Don’t Work

  • I recently answered a question from somebody interested in losing weight: “How much weight can I lose on this 1200 calorie diet?”

To add to the question, the lady also has a newborn baby and is breast-feeding (by the way, this lady was not my wife! :) )

In my experience as someone who has coached many people to lose extreme amounts of weight at times (when necessary), a severe calorie restricted diet is not always a great idea! Of course this depends on your body type, and for this reason, doing this type of diet will cause you to:

    1. Lose weight. Or,
    2. Put weight on because your body will go into starvation mode.

Either way, it is not possible to sustain a healthy life on this amount of calories!!!

Any adult human needs at least 2300 calories per day or you will go into starvation and your body will begin to catabolise (break down) its tissues. Not something you want! This is before you even factor in daily activities and chores, exercise or other calorie-expense such as breastfeeding which some experts suggest burns 500 calories a day alone!

So while it is possible that weight loss could occur doing this type of diet (and many people,  men and women are trying these extreme diets) it is most certainly not safe. In the long run it is not sustainable to eat such a low amount of calories and this immense stress placed on your system can lead to serious health problems.

My suggestions would be to cut the crap out of your diet: Avoid gluten/wheat, dairy, sugar and salt for starters. Within days, maybe a week to 10 days max, you will drop weight.

And then, once your diet is looking better and able to sustain life then you can add exercise in.

I suggest if you want to drop weight, or have a body that looks great, to Subscribe to this Blog’s feed by clicking on the icon at the top right.

Good luck, and comment to let me know if you have any questions!

No one wants to be overweight! The most difficult thing to be able to control to keep your weight in check is mindless grazing. It is not always easy to do, but eat to live don’t live to eat. Some type of daily regimen is needed by everyone; but do not diet, your body needs nourishment. Diets and diet aids do not help anyone! The only way to successfully lose weight and get the body that you deserve is by using the right information. This information is in the book Lose Weight Using Four Easy Steps which can be ordered through the website http://www.bbotw.com Everyone who has gotten a copy of this book has lost weight and become healthier.
