Mini-Goals Along The Way
-
As a Personal Trainer and Holistic Lifestyle Coach I am constantly discussing people’s goals / dreams / aspirations with them. The typical goals I see are fitness or aesthetics related, or generally just health, wellness and feeling-good. However every now and then I do get clients who I discuss goals with and they see the much bigger picture:
There are many aspects of lifestyle design.
They notice the link between your overall happiness and success and each and every area of your life – this could be financial, career, relationships, spirituality, or any other title you want to give different areas of your life. These clients are the ones that set goals to travel the world, find ways of spending more time with their family, taking part in charity events, etc.
They Dream BIG!
However, even though this website is focusing on not losing the ability to dream and keeping your eyes on the prize, that BIG, audacious goal that you are always after, I am going to tell you that it’s not the be all and end all.
You need to combine your big goals, with smaller mini-goals along the way. The main benefit of doing this is motivation. If you set a goal that you would one day like to achieve making £500,000 a year, but you are only currently earning £20,000 then it might be a while before you get there (not to say that you never will!) It could be easy to lose motivation along the way.
Set yourself smaller goals first: £50k in the first year; £100k in the second year; £150k in the third year, and so on. Of course things in the real world will vary dramatically but you get the point. Many Internet Marketing Guru’s will tell you that while they are interested in your audacious goals for how much you want to earn, they are far more focused on you making that first pound (£) before you go any further.
You can apply this same system to anything you want to achieve: You want to lose 10kg this year? Aim for 1 a month for the next ten months then.
You’re obviously intelligent if you are on this site so I won’t insult your intelligence by giving you further examples. What I invite you to do now is to take out your list of goals or Resolutions that you set 10 days ago, and then break them all down into smaller mini goals.
This way you are more likely to achieve your goals, and much more likely to have fun and enjoy the process along the way!
