My Running Plans
-
So far 2011 has been an interesting year for me:
- I have started a couple of new businesses,
- My second child was born in June,
- One of my businesses has made me become busier than I have ever been,
- My own training has been highly consistent in the last few months.
However, along with all of these extra added responsibilities, my running has suffered a little bit.
I started this year with lots of grand dreams about what races I would do and when, and how I would periodise my training schedules to meet these requirements, but none of it has happened. As of writing this blog post, I have done no races. It is over a year since I did my last race, the London to Brighton UltraMarathon.
I could write all about what has gone wrong and why I have done any races, but there are numerous reasons. The main is that I haven’t prioritised it – simple as that. No elaborate excuses here I’m afraid.
But right here and now I am resolving to change all of that. In the next couple of weeks I have got a very low-key 5k and a 10k locally that I am going to run in but the races I really want to do are Ultra’s.
So I have set myself a couple of rules:
- I will run at least a race every 4 months – that’s three a year.
- While I have run consistently over the last year, I haven’t got the distance I needed under my belt. I have written out my plan of how I can achieve this within my lifestyle give my new responsibilities, work habits, children, etc.
- I will aim all of my training (including gym sessions) towards improving my running – as opposed to general training programmes for aesthetics and “ego”.
With this said, I am going to get the little runs out of the way in the next 3 weeks, and then book up for a race in February (so I can relax on my holiday I am planning for March.) This is likely to be an Ultra in the UK so I can avoid travelling, and I am hoping to find something around the 50 mile distance, so I can then aim for something a little more for the next 4 months after that. Now I’ve got all of that off my chest I feel better. Hopefully in writing this and telling the world it will actually become a reality now. Watch this space for as and when I decide on my next race.If anyone knows of any Ultra’s in the UK around the 50 mile mark do let me know. Thanks.
