No time for exercise?
-
“I haven’t got any time!” This is a pretty common excuse I hear from people when I suggest they do some exercise. I have to tell you straight away that this is a terrible excuse!
I say this from first-hand experience of having the same 24 hours in every day that everyone else has, and first-hand experience of using that time both productively and also wasting my time on countless occasions too. (Of course, learning from it in future as well!)
So, when I hear this excuse I often wonder what a person’s motivation is to exercise. Do they want to lose weight? Gain muscle? Improve their health through better joint stability? Improve their mental health and clarity? All of these are just some of the literally thousands of benefits that exercise can give you. But do you really, really want it? Does the extra time it takes to look after yourself and exercise daily outweigh the benefits?
For me, this answer is a resounding “Yes!” I have been through phases of exercising 3, 4, 5 times a week, I have had periods training daily, and also times when I have really cut my workout time down to the bare minimums and trained just a couple of times weekly. Whatever training regime I am on at that particular time, I always feel the benefits for training, and I am sure you would do if you had a programme designed specifically for you.
Now, what if you honestly believe that you haven’t got the time? Then I suggest that you should try to make some time!
The average person spends between 4 and 6 hours watching the television every day. This is an amazing statistic, and I have certainly done it in the past myself, but surely you don’t need to watch all of those shows? I’m not against television completely like some people and I do have my favourite programmes, but I struggle to rack up 4 to 6 hours of viewing every week, let alone daily.
This is just one area that you might be able to find some time to exercise. I urge you to take a look at your life and analyse where you spend lots of time that you might not need to, and then put an exercise programme into your routine.
“But I love watching television, it’s my rest and relaxation time!!”
Well, if that is the case, why not buy a Swiss Ball and exercise in front of the television at home?
Seriously, there are no excuses. I think we can all find some time to exercise daily.
Just ten minutes every day can be enough. For some of your goals you will need to exercise more – if you are running a marathon for example – but if you just want to be healthy and look better, then you don’t need much time.
Try doing some simple exercises, stretches, qi-gong exercises, or even just walking for ten minutes daily, and you will feel the difference in a week!!
