Personal Trainers and Christmas
-
It’s only three weeks today until Christmas Day and it’s always a tough time for health-seekers.
What with all the tempting food and snacks that are available to you, the late night Christmas parties, and let’s not forget the extra stress of buying gifts, visiting family and friends, and trying to fit all of this into your routine.
Well fear not! Today I am going to explore my top tips on how a personal health trainer can help you survive this holiday season.
- Whatever foods you decide to eat, make them organic or the highest possible quality you can find. At least then you won’t have to deal with all of the foreign, toxic substances too. You can get organic, free range turkeys, organic vegetables, and even organic chocolates and Christmas pudding – so there’s no excuse! Or make your own foods with healthy ingredients so you know exactly what’s in them, this can be a great exercise in creativity and can bring family together if you cook with your loved ones.
- Drink plenty of water. When you get busy it’s easy to forget to drink water. Make sure you are drinking half of your body weight in pounds in ounces of water daily, and more if you are active. Buy a bottle to the size you need (or a couple), fill them up at the beginning of the day, and make sure they are gone by then end of the day. I suggest trying to drink every two hours, rather than leaving it longer and still drinking the same amount.
- Nap often. No doubt you will be having some late nights during this time of the year. I suggest that you nap to make up your sleep otherwise you will go into sleep debt that you are always trying to repay. Make your naps 15-20 minutes in length and you will feel more freshed.
- Exercise, but only when it’s light out. Our bodies are intimately linked with the cycles of the Sun and the Moon, and when it is dark outside our bodies are thinking that we should be asleep, or at least winding down. Therefore, make your workouts in the mornings. If you can’t fit that in, then maybe you should rest more - your body will thank you for it!
- Remember to stay happy at Christmas. Whatever your religion or beliefs, Christmas is about giving, sharing, receiving, loving, smiling, being with family, getting a little time off work, having fun and so much more good stuff! If the Winter blues begin to get you down, or the shopping is too much, or preparing for family wears you out – take a break, breathe, smile, and remember that being unhappy takes far more energy than it does to be happy!
Even though investing your hard earned cash in a trainer might not seem like the logical idea at this time of the year and especially in this current economical crisis, but when you consider potential expenditure on aspirins, antacids, days off work feeling ill, time spent in bed when you could be with your loved ones, and any other medical drugs that your lifestyle habits might be causing you to take, a personal health trainer might seem like the sensible option.
The system that I teach uses the above points and so much more to incorporate health into your whole lifestyle, not just your gym training routine.
Let’s consider that you might like to enjoy the Christmas season without the hangovers, headaches, bloating and extra weight gain that you are used to by trying the system out!
Enjoy the season and please do not hesitate to comment and ask for help! Merry Christmas!
