Should We Just Be Content or Constantly Moving Forward?

  • The argument of whether we should be content and happy with what we have, or in a constant movement of evolution is a long-standing debate.

I won’t admit to knowing the answer to this but I thought that I would throw my suggestion in there that we should do both.

It has been said that unless we are moving forward, evolving and improving, then we must by default be going backwards, degenerating and getting worse. My favourite analogy of this was found when I read Kurek Ashley’s book How Would Love Respond? which is a book that I highly recommend you check out.

He points out that since human beings are simply energy (as is everything in the Universe) then they have positive and negative charges, or energy. The best example of this is that of a battery. Fully of energy, with positive and negative poles. Now if you take a fully charged battery, put it on the shelf in the garage and leave it sitting there then over time it will lose it’s charge and you will need to charge it again.

Much like human beings. If you just sit there without movement or exercise, without good quality, energy-giving nutrition and love, then you will lose all of your existing energy. It won’t just sit there and wait for you to get up and use it. Eventually you will die and this is the loss of all vital energy in the body.

So this is a very strong argument for Constantly Moving Forward. If you don’t, then you will die. Or at least be sick, and you most certainly won’t live a life full of success and joy will you?

However, when you have a grand dream that you are working towards then moving forward can be quite easy. It’s staying happy and content whilst we do it that is the hard part.

But of course, you must stay happy and content otherwise there is no motivation to move forward!

My suggestion to you would be to find a grand dream, or your ultimate joy, that really makes life worth living. The kind of goal that makes you wake up out of bed in the morning before your alarm clock goes off! Once you have this goal then you will be constantly moving forward. You will do all you can to achieve that goal! And of course, if you find a goal that you really want to do then you will be happy and content with it too.

If you are not content then you have two options:

    1) Find a goal that you are passionate about. Make it your decision and not someone else’s.

    2) Sit, quietly, thoughtfully. Maybe you’ll get some answers come to you ;-)

What wakes you up out of bed and keeps you constantly moving forward?
