  • New At The Blog: Re-Thinking Weight Loss

Weight Loss, Pain, Fatigue, Digestion

  • The three biggest goals of clients that come to see me are as follows:

    • Weight loss
    • Back pain treatment
    • Eliminating fatigue.

Many people work hard for years and years to solve these problems, but most do not get to the root of the problem. This blog is going to focus on one of the main keys to improving these areas of peoples health – digestion.

When you see my Health Facts and The New Paradigm page, despite there being many facts on this page, by far the largest section is the Prevalance of Digestive Disease. Add this to the three main problems people are looking to solve and cure in their lives (above) and you can start to see a correlation.

If you look at these health facts and you see that you are adding yourself to these statistics, then it is about time to look at improving your health through improving your digestion.

Constipation – In the U.K, 10 million prescriptions are written annually for laxatives, and many more non-prescription laxatives are taken. At over £46 million per year in England, expenditure on the four main types of laxative is higher than on hypnotics and anxiolytics.

The fact of the matter is that most people are constipated. If you are not passing 12 inches of faeces a day, or you need to strain to move your bowels, then you are technically constipated.

Action: In order to loosen your bowels we must stay well-hydrated through drinking adequate amounts of water. The reason for this is that when we are dehydrated your body will try to squeeze moisture from everywhere it can, including your bowels, resulting in hard, dry and difficult to pass “poop”. In order to know how much water to drink, I suggest taking your bodyweight in kilograms, multiplying it by 0.033 and this will tell you how much water you should drink in litres per day. Remember: Dry mouth is one of the last signs of dehydration.

Lactose Intolerance – In the U.S, approximately 30-50 million people are lactose intolerant.

Food intolerance is on the rise. I use this statistic above because it is particularly high, but lactose intolerance or dairy intolerance is just one of many, many foods that are common intolerants. Also very highly allergenic foods are wheat/gluten, soya, eggs, yeast and corn. Plus many others.

Action: To treat your back pain, you must eliminate all foods that you are allergic or intolerant to. When you eat foods that you are sensitive to you inflame your gut, and the nerves in your gut link in to the same muscles in your lower back and abdominals surrounding your torso. So, if you have inflammation in your gut, the underlying muscles will undoubtedly be in pain too. I suggest for people to initially cut out the Four White Devils: Wheat-Flour or Gluten containing grains, Processed Sugars, Processed / Pasteurised Dairy, Refined Table Salt. After 2 weeks you will feel fantastic – but remember, no cheating!

As of 1992 (A very old statistic!!!) 1.4 million people in the U.S were registered disabled because of digestive disorders.

When we are digesting our food, 90% of your blood supply rushes to the gut in order to help you digest. Obviously this takes a lot of energy to do this, and can be very tiring for the body. However, most people are eating on the go and doing many other things rather than digesting properly, thus leading to tiredness and fatigue. Very commonly this happens after lunch, giving people what is called “Post-Lunch Dip” – a drop in energy levels after eating due to the body becoming too tired from not being able to digest foods properly.

Action: Put time in your schedule to eat your meals and have time afterwards to sit and allow your foods to digest. When you are eating you should chew all of your foods until they are liquified and this will help your digestive system to digest more efficiently. Make sure that you are not rushing around before or after you eat – move from “fast-food” to “slow-food” and your energy levels will rapidly improve.

So there you have it. Three basics points that you can follow easily to improve your digestion and therefore help you to lose weight, improve your back pain, and treat any fatigue you may have.

I would love to hear your experiences of how you get on! Good luck!
