  • New At The Blog: Re-Thinking Weight Loss

What I Believe…

  • I was reading through another Blog from Dax Moy, a London Personal Trainer, in which he goes through his Belief’s about the fitness industry, personal trainers, coaches and healthcare in general. It was such a fantastic post I recommend you read it. Dax also ended his post with a challenge, and urged others to Blog on the same topic too. I feel that posting my beliefs will tell my story more formally and bring me closer to my clients, the people who know me, and hopefully the readers of my web-sites too. So here goes…

I am a big advocate of mastering your own beliefs. Unless you know what you believe in for you and your own life, you are constantly going to be falling victim to the wants, needs and ideologies of others. These may resonate with your values in life, but as individual as we all are, this is likely not to be the case. If this does happen, you will be forever unhappy as you will be living someone elses life not your own. And something we all know for sure about health and wellness, is that you have to be happy with what YOU are doing, and do things for yourself first and foremost in order to fill yourself up to be able to give it all back out to others in service.

With this said, here are my beliefs. I suggest you do this for yourself too – and by all means, please comment because I love to get feedback – and maybe link me to your Blog where you can post the same! I look forward to hearing from you.

    1. I believe that “life in all its fullness is Mother Nature obeyed.” Weston Price said that and I agree with him. To live life in fullness you must be healthy – holistically healthy in all aspects, not just in some! – and to be healthy we must observe and obey Mother Nature as she intended us to be living.
    2. I believe that to be “holistically healthy” does not just mean being free from disease, or illness, or to be fit, strong and supple. To be wholly healthy these are important points, but we need to also be happy with our lives. This includes having fulfilling work, enjoyable recreation, loving relationships, balance in all aspects of life.
    3. I believe that to achieve this destination of health, and continue on a healthy journey afterwards, we must take responsibility for ourselves and not expect others to do the work that we must do, stay open-minded on the route that we will take to get to our destination, and enlist the help of others that we know can help, for example personal trainers, coaches and / or orthodox or alternative health professionals. It is these people that have the knowledge and experience necessary to help you on your quest, and fortunately everyone has different ideas and systems that they use, so you must find what works for you, and the person that resonates with you.
    4. I believe that when a coach/trainer/professional is put in a position to help a client, they should practise what they preach, walk their talk and live their lessons. You can’t give what you yourself have not already got! So when I first look for someone to help me in my own life, I ensure that the person is not only knowledgable, but experienced too.
    5. I believe that when you have knowledge or experience that you should apply it at least in your own life for positive evolution, and also applying this to your clients too. As Dan Millman says in The Way of the Peaceful Warrior: A Book That Changes Lives, there’s no higher purpose than service to others. This is part of the reason why I have chosen to work in a service profession, and enjoy what I do so much!
    6. With this said, I believe that however important it is to give service to others, you should only give service in the form of your knowledge, experience or advice to others when it is requested. All too many times I have tried to help others – family members, friends, gym members – and quickly realised that they were not looking for the type of help that I was offering, and some simply didn’t want any help at all, but simply to have a chat with someone and bounce their feelings off you.
    7. For this reason, I believe that to be loving, compassionate and empathetic towards others is the greatest service of all! I know many personal trainers, fitness instructors and health professionals, and some of them are technically not that knowledgeable or experienced, but they are most definitely busy in their business and keep their clientele for a long time. I put this down to their ability to be compassionate with their clients, and this is most definitely one of my own goals that I am continually working on – to be more understanding of my clients needs, and not just my own.
    8. I believe that a large part of being loving, compassionate and empathetic requires you use these feelings not only with your clients but with yourself. Understand when you as a trainer find it difficult to build the motivation to train on a day when you may not want to; understand when you are tempted into eating some food that you know your body won’t love; and understand when you want to have a late night to watch your favourite tv programme even though you will feel terrible when you wake up in the morning. Being loving to yourself allows you to be loving to others. And being loving to yourself allows you to not just be loving to your friends, family, and clients, but to Mother Nature too, for without her we would not be here, and without her health, you would not have your health. You can only be as healthy as your Mother is!
    9. I believe that following a healthy lifestyle, AND following the needs of your Mother Nature are one and the same thing. I recommend for people to eat organic foods which are not only much more nutrient dense and better for you, but the methods of farming for organic foods and commercial foods radically differ – organic farming is much better for the planet and the environment.
    10. I believe that if you have beliefs you have something to live for! I suggest for each and every human being, whether you have fitness and health goals or not, that you should contemplate your core values and the values that you place on your own life. This will aid you in making decisions that you would otherwise find difficult.

These are some of my core beliefs. I hope they inspire you to come up with your own. Good luck!
