What is ‘Lifestyle Design’?
-
Many of you will have arrived at this site and be thinking, “What the heck is Lifestyle Design?!”
That’s what this Blog post is all about. This Blog in general is all about how to design a lifestyle of your dreams, how to achieve the dreams and goals that you set out for, and for networking and brainstorming ideas between like-minded individuals and groups to accomplish MASSIVE outcomes in their personal lives, business ventures, and everything that goes beyond the mind and the body!
I was originally introduced to Lifestyle Design through the book The Four Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss. This book absolutely changed my life and the way I looked at the world. In his bestseller Tim Ferriss discuss lifestyle design in four steps: D – Dream (Deciding what you want); E – Eliminate (Eliminating the drains in your life); A – Automate (Automating your life and finances); and L – Liberate (Here the sky is the limit and he discusses planning mini-retirements all the way to charitable contributions and spiritual escapes.)
This book is totally against the grain, however much of it worked in my life when it came to creating dreams I could believe in, eliminating energy and time drains and becoming much more productive. As well as finding ways to streamline my income and work life. I have never struggled to have ideas for what I would do if I retired tomorrow so the Liberate section was quite an easy read for me.
Nonetheless, I would like to summarise Lifestyle Design: The choices you make in respect to the way you live your life, the way you plan to live your life, and how you actually live your life.
The majority of the population are unhappy with their lives and most would jump at the chance to change it, however most do not. There are two remarkable statistics published frequently nowadays:
- 98% of all the riches in the world is controlled by 2% of the population;
- 98% of people who reach retiring age are either dead, bankrupt, or under care.
When I heard these two statistics I realised that I did NOT want to be a part of the 98% crowd – No offence! I just choose to live my life in a different way. I look at my life through many different categories and I feel that this is the best way to plan to live your life:
- Health,
- Personal,
- Relationships,
- Fun,
- Contribution,
- Career,
- Finances.
Each one of us will choose to prioritise these differently, but what is usually quite common is that the 2% of people “succeeding” in life, are successful in all 7 areas.
Now I don’t profess to do this myself but I am working towards it. That is part of my reason for writing this post. I am looking for like-minded people to all help each other out to reach success.
I will be posting numerous helpful posts over the coming days and weeks on how to achieve your goals. I will be stimulating conversations, arguments and inspiring you (I hope)… So please do comment!!
Let’s start by asking: What do you dream for 2009? Just 1 thing! Let me know, and maybe I can help, or maybe someone else can!
Happy New Year 2009 everyone!

One Response and Counting...
The four hour work week is an awesome book. It can be truely life changing but only if you act on the information it contains. Perhaps 98% (?) of those who read it, agree that it is interesting and then do nothing about designing their life.
For 2009 I will be travelling in India on a Royal Enfield motorcycle.
Set goals and make them happen.
